As its name kind of gives away, coconut oil is an oil that’s extracted from coconuts. It’s an edible oil and finds an incredible number of uses.
For example, it’s often used in cooking, especially in curries. And many people use it as a frying oil too.
But the really interesting side to coconut oil is its incredibly wide range of healthy benefits. It’s one of the few foods that really do deserve to be labelled a ‘superfood’.
Here’s just a few of the areas where coconut oil can be used beneficially:
- For skin care
- To improve the immune system
- To aid digestion
- For hair care
Coconut Oil For Skin Care
If you’re looking for a great massage oil, then coconut oil certainly fits the bill. It’s a great moisturizer for dry skin. Indeed, it’s great for all skin types.
And there are no side effects when you apply coconut oil to your skin. This is a big advantage it has over mineral oils.
Coconut oil is also excellent for preventing and treating the common signs of ageing, such as saggy skin and wrinkles.
Coconut Oil For The Immune System
Coconut oil has anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. Because of this, it’s great for boosting the immune system and helping your body to fight harmful bacteria and viruses.
Coconut Oil For Digestion
Coconut oil helps you to absorb nutrients such as amino acids and vitamins. In addition, because of its anti-microbial properties it helps to deal with the bacteria and other things that can cause indigestion.
Coconut Oil For Hair Care
You’ll find coconut oil as an ingredient in many hair care products. It helps to strengthen and improve your hair, and give it a lovely shiny appearance. It also helps to prevent and treat dandruff too.
As well as these few benefits of coconut oil I’ve discussed here, it has many other uses too. Not least its use in helping weight loss.
I’ll cover many of these uses of coconut oil in future articles, so stay tuned!
